This 15,500 sq ft school was the first Passive House-certified school in Maine and uses prefabricated roof and floor wood trusses as the main structural system. The trusses provided a large space for thermal insulation while the floor trusses allowed mechanical runs to be within the structural package, increasing the ceiling heights. The large community room is composed of engineered lumber and a single steel beam needed to create the large open space. All structural connections between interior and exterior space were designed with thermal breaks in mind. The first phase was designed with future phases in mind, including additional classroom wings and a full gymnasium. The 2nd Phase Middle school wing was completed in 2020.
